ABOUT US

MEET THE TEAM

We are a Community Interest Company (non-profit organisation), providing a range of services in the North East around Deaf and Hearing Impairment.

 

We consult Forum Members for advice and guidance on different projects and issues.

Deaf and hearing working together in Tyne and Wear, breaking down the barriers that Deaf or hearing impaired people face in our society.

This includes training, British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation, Support and general advice and guidance.                                           

ABOUT US

Julie is highly qualified at BSL Level 4 working towards Level 6.  She has been signing and working with young people, adults and socialising with Deaf friends, gaining BSL qualifications for a long time. She is responsible for the running of the organisation.

Cheryl is our Managing Director and her duties also include being one of our Communication Support team.  She has worked for over 20 years with Deaf Children and is a BSL Level 3 qualified and looking to attain Level 6 and Interpreter status within the near future.

Leah is Deaf and wears 2 hearing aids, replies on lipreading and sign support. Her duties also include being one of the Communication Support team.  She is a Deaf role model for our students,  delivering Family Play and Sign classes. Leah has worked with Deaf children for over 15 years and is qualified in BSL.  

Sonia was born profoundly DEAF.  First language is British Sign Language. Has been teaching for about 30 years,

started as a volunteer at the local Deaf club and in the community, then took a course in teaching BSL and qualified to teach BSL Level 1, 2 and Deaf Awareness.

Hannah is one of our Deaf Tutors, she has cochlear implant.  BSL is her first, preferred language, using lipreading and signed support. She has experience of working in various settings delivering BSL level 1 Courses. She is a Deaf role model for our students

Steven works with the Communication Support Team and Personal Assistant to people from the Deaf Community.  He is BSL qualified to a high standard, teacher qualified and attends Deaf Social events regularly.

HaHan

Allyson is our administrator and has an interest in BSL and communication. Moving from a very different work environment to working with us she has gained Deaf Awareness and qualifications to support our administration and enquiries.
